• How much does it cost to partner with Microsoft to develop a HealthVault-enabled application?

The HealthVault SDK is publicly available to developers at no cost. 

• Is HealthVault secure?

HealthVault is governed by strict privacy policy that can be found here

• I am a doctor, how can my patients connect with HealthVault?

Your patients can create a HealthVault account at www.HealthVault.com.  HealthVault is available to consumers that reside in the United States.  Once a patient creates an account, they can allow access to any other individual, such as a family member, or application, such as an electronic medical record (EMR) system.   Please inquire with your EMR provider to see if your EMR supports connections with HealthVault.  HealthVault is continuously expanding its partnerships with Healthcare organizations, including hospital systems and electronic medical records vendors.   If you are a physician and your EMR vendor does not currently support connections with HealthVault, we would be pleased to collaborate with your vendor to support the development of this capability. If you would like to develop a connection to HealthVault independent of your EMR you will need to go through the process of building a connection as noted on this website.

• Is HealthVault available outside the United States?

HealthVault as described on HealthVault.com is for users that reside in the United States.    In some instances HealthVault is licensed for 3^rd party use and administration outside of the US.   For information on HealthVault partnerships outside the US please contact hvintl@microsoft.com.

• I don't have the technical expertise to develop an application, can I still partner?

There are a variety of consultants that have experience developing HealthVault-enabled applications.  They can be found via the following link.

• Can HealthVault be used for research or academic purposes?

Any partner can develop a HealthVault-enabled application including those in research and academia however the operating and security requirements are unchanged.  HealthVault does not sell or disseminate aggregated patient data for any reason.

• What marketing resources does Microsoft provide me with to support my application?

Once you become a HealthVault Solution Provider, you will have access to a unique marketing toolkit that includes customizable marketing collateral and discounts on marketing services offered exclusively to HealthVault Solution Providers.  Our customizable templates enable you to create brochures, posters, direct mail and more with your unique solution messaging and logo.  In addition, Microsoft has negotiated pricing discounts exclusively for HealthVault Solution Providers with several vendors offering marketing services from search engine optimization to marketing strategy consulting to print and fulfillment.

• What technical resources does Microsoft provide me with to support my application?

Microsoft provides a variety of support options for HealthVault developers:

• Documentation on the HealthVault MSDN Developer Center
• The .NET HealthVault SDK with client-side libraries and sample applications. This is also available on the MSDN site.
• Free technical support via the Developer Forum on the HealthVault MSDN Developer Center.
• Paid technical support from Microsoft, currently free but soon to be priced at $99 USD per incident.
